We now have the first recorded case of doctors being able to help a guy thanks to a Fitbit. So you never know when one might save your life.
A 42-year-old guy recently went to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey with an irregular heartbeat. And the doctors were able to look at his Fitbit data to see when his heart rate started going crazy.
Since they had proof it had only been going for a few hours, they knew it was within the window to safely treat it with a quick electrical shock. Then they gave him one, and his heart started beating normally again.
Activity trackers aren’t considered official medical devices, but the doctors who treated this guy say they can still be extremely useful, quote, “to provide emergency physicians with objective information.”
