Illinois Senate Wants To Vote On Grand Bargain This Week

(Springfield, IL) — Get ready to hear about taxes and pensions and debt. Leaders in the Illinois Senate hope to vote on the first of 14 pieces of legislation that make-up the so-called ‘grand bargain’ this week. The idea is to raise the income tax and borrow money to pay off Illinois’ mountain of unpaid bills, then try and find pension and workers’ comp reforms. But Republicans in the Senate are starting to question whether the bargain is really good deal for taxpayers.
