Illinois’ Budget Bargain Is In Trouble

(Springfield, IL) — Top lawmakers in Springfield are hoping to be able to salvage something from the ‘grand bargain’ because it doesn’t look like it’s going to pass. The plan to finally give Illinois a budget hit a number of snags yesterday. Lawmakers, business groups, and labor unions all pulled at pieces of the proposal that would raise taxes and offer some business reforms. Lawmakers had hoped to vote on the bargain today, now they just hope to keep it from dying.
