Study: Kids Closer To Pets Than Sibs
(Cambridge, England) — A new study suggests children may be closer to their pets than to their brothers and sisters. Researchers from Cambridge University in England studied 12-year-olds from almost 80 homes with multiple children and at least one pet. A majority of the children reported a stronger relationship with their pet than with their siblings. Researchers say this may be, in part, because pets don’t talk back and are not judgmental. They say its possible say pets may have a great influence on children’s development and may help their social skills and emotional health. The study appears in the “Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology.”
