We are pleased to announce this year’s Honorary Chairman is Zale Walk, son of Coles County natives Vince & Katie Walk. Zale’s parents learned of his need for a transplant due to a valve defect before he was born. Shortly upon arriving into this world, Zale received his heart – and the great honor of being the 250th transplant recipient at a Chicago hospital last fall. Zale is doing well and approaching his first birthday very soon thanks to the generous donation of life and the lifesaving research and development funded by Heart Walks all across the United States!
This year’s East Central IL Heart Walk, emceed by Bub McCullough and Renee Fonner of 101.3 WMCI (our sister station), will feature a half mile and three mile walk in an effort to raise life-saving funds for the American Heart Association’s research, educational and awareness programs in Illinois and across the country. To receive this year’s tshirt, walkers are encouraged to raise $100 or more by collecting donations from friends, co-workers, and family. At the walk, participants can visit the many different booths where they can enjoy activities such as health screenings, visit the tribute wall, participate in a Survivor Lunch provided by Subway, enjoy nutritious refreshments, learn “Hands Only CPR” and celebrate their fundraising success by having a team photo taken and more!
The East Central IL Heart Walk is sponsored nationally by Subway and Walgreens. Local sponsors include Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, First Mid Illinois Bank & Trust, First Mid Illinois Insurance and Consolidated Communications.
The Heart Walk features teams of heart disease and stroke survivors, employees from local companies and people interested in fighting heart disease and stroke, America’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.
