We’re only three days into the summer, and it’s already shaping up to be a hot one. And while most people LOVE all the sunshine that summer brings, it can make some of us downright MISERABLE. If you’re part of that second group, here are four tips to help you survive the next three months . . .
1. Stay out of the sun. If being in the heat makes you irritable, stressed, or depressed, stay out of the sun as much as possible. Air-conditioning . . . ice packs or cooling pads . . . and blackout window shades will all help.
2. But don’t avoid sunlight entirely. You don’t want to cut out the sun ENTIRELY, you just want to be smart about it. That means going outdoors in the early morning or evening, when the sun and the heat aren’t at their worst.
3. Take a trip. Instead of taking a vacation to the beach or somewhere tropical, go somewhere that’s cooler in the summer months. Places like San Francisco, Seattle, and upstate New York don’t crack 70 degrees most weeks, even in the summer.
4. Exercise, but do it indoors. Exercise is a good mood booster, but a sweaty jog in the heat can be awful. Swimming is a good option, if you have access to a pool. Otherwise, it might be worth it to invest in some exercise equipment you can use at home, where you control the thermostat.
