No matter where you stand on climate change, THIS won’t happen. According to a new study, we could put a pretty big dent in global warming if we all just got rid of our PETS.
Dogs and cats both need a lot of protein in their diets, so their food has a lot of meat in it. And cows are thought to be one of the biggest drivers of climate change because you have to grow crops to feed them. Plus they produce a lot of methane gas.
There are roughly 80 million dogs and 90 million cats in the U.S. And at least 25% of the environmental impact from meat production is because of them. So if no one owned pets, we’d reduce the amount of carbon dioxide we pump into the atmosphere by 64 million tons a year. Which is like taking 13.6 million cars off the road.
