U.S. Forest Service Opens More Eclipse Camping
(Carbondale, IL) — Good news if you don’t have a place to stay in southern Illinois for next week’s eclipse. The U.S. Forest Service yesterday opened three campgrounds in the Shawnee National Forest. In all there will be just over 100 new campsites available on a first come, first serve basis. Most of the campsites are what the Forest Service calls “primitive.” Southern Illinois leaders expect as many as 200-thousand visitors to come to the area for Monday’s eclipse.
