(Washington, DC) — Republicans and Democrats are hardening their positions as both sides dig-in for what could be a prolonged battle. The federal government is in its second day of a shutdown. The Senate and House reconvened for rare Sunday sessions today to try and break the impasse. Democrats are demanding President Trump negotiate on immigration issues as part of an agreement to resume government funding. The party accuses the President of reneging on an earlier accord to protect “Dreamers” from deportation. Republicans are just as adamant. They say they will not negotiate immigration or other issues as long as all but essential government services are shuttered.
