(Century City, CA) — Tonight’s episode of “The Simpsons” will set another milestone. The episode titled “Forgive and Regret” will be the 636th since the show debuted on Fox in 1989. The animated series will surpass the record of the highest number of scripted episodes for any prime time show that’s currently held by “Gunsmoke.” As a tribute to the CBS Western series, “The Simpsons” created a special sequence that shows Lisa gunning down Matt Dillon is a spoof of “Gunsmoke’s” signature opening title. The show that began as a series of short animated skits on “The Tracey Ullman Show” is in its 29th season and has already been renewed for a 30th on Fox.
