A woman named Liz Willock got an Uber in Philadelphia about two weeks ago. And she found out the driver’s son is on the U.S. OLYMPIC team.
The driver’s name is Ellis Hill, and his son Darrell is ranked fourth in the world in shot put. And as you’d imagine, he brags about it to a lot of his passengers.
But he said he couldn’t go to Rio to see him compete, because the tickets, airfare, and hotel room cost too much . . . about $7,500.
So two days later, Liz set up a Go Fund Me page for him. And she stopped accepting donations last Friday, because they already passed their goal.
Random people who heard about it donated over $8,000 in nine days. So now Ellis WILL get to be there when Darrell competes.
The men’s shot put events start next Thursday.
