A 69-year-old woman in Dallas named Brenda Jones found out she needed a new liver a year ago, and got on the transplant list. And she got word last month that the surgery was happening.
But right before it went down, she found out a 23-year-old woman named Abigail Flores ALSO needed a new liver, and was in even WORSE shape.
Her doctors said she might not make it another day unless she got a transplant. So even though Brenda had been waiting a year, she decided to STAY on the list, and let Abigail get a transplant instead.
Brenda told the local news that she wouldn’t have been able to live with herself if she knew Abigail died because she didn’t get the transplant.
The surgery happened a month ago, and Abigail is recovering . . . she says Brenda single-handedly saved her life.
And Brenda’s doing well too, because her doctors found ANOTHER liver for her a few days later, and she ALSO got a transplant. (WFAA)
