The Illinois State Police District 12 report that earlier this morning around 1 am a fatal accident occured in Kell ,Marion County, that the car was engulfed in flames and the driver pronounced dead on the scene. Preliminary investigative details indicate William Hicks, 62 years old from Centralia IL, was travelling on County Rd 1175 E near the T intersection with Sassafras Lane. Hicks did attempt to brake near the intersection, but had too much speed and skidded across Sassafras Lane in and out of the roadway and into a deep ditch. The vehicle from the impact in the ditch caught fire and was soon fully engulfed in flames. When responders arrived Hicks had not been able to get out the car before the car caught fire and was pronounced dead on the scene.
