There’s a 97-year-old Army vet in Chicago named Jim Schlegel who survived Pearl Harbor, and he’s also a huge Cubs fan. But even at 97, he’s never seen them win a World Series. The last time was in 1908, eleven years before he was born.
But he WAS there the last time they PLAYED in a World Series. He went to Game 6 and Game 7 of the 1945 World Series when he was 26.
So his granddaughter wanted to see if she could send him to the World Series THIS year too. She set up an online fundraising campaign on Sunday to raise $10,000 for two tickets.
But then Marcus Lemonis heard about it. He’s the host of a reality show on CNBC called “The Profit” that helps struggling businesses. And he was looking to GIVE AWAY a World Series ticket to someone who deserved it.
So Jim scored a ticket to tonight’s game . . . another one for his son, so they can go together . . . and both tickets are FRONT ROW.
Meanwhile, his granddaughter’s GoFundMe campaign raised over 12 grand. And they’re donating all of it to a charity called the Purple Heart Foundation that helps veterans. (Huffington Post / GoFundMe)
