According to a MPD press release, Mattoon police arrested Bradley E. Benfield, age 35 of Huntersville, NC., on Tuesday March 14th at 7:34 p.m. The arrest occurred in the 100 block of Miller Road. Benfield was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer, Resisting a Peace Officer, and Criminal Damage to State Supported Property.
The charges allege that Benfield caused a disturbance at a local gas station. Upon police arriving Benfield punched a police officer in the jaw. Benfield then resisted arrest and a squad car windshield was damaged during the ensuing struggle.
Minor injuries were reported. Benfield was taken to the jail.
