It’s Spring Break. Here are five tips to help keep you and your college friends healthy while you party.
1. Drinking. Partying hard during Spring Break can come back to bite you a few different ways. One, those frozen tropical drinks contain tons of calories and sugar in addition to the alcohol. And two, drinking in the sun will make you more dehydrated than usual which can cause you to get drunk more quickly.
So be mindful of how many drinks you put back during the day and alternate each alcoholic drink with a tall glass of ice water.
2. The sun. Not only does UV radiation from the sun cause skin cancer, but it’s also the number one cause of wrinkles.
Sunscreen is great but it only works if you reapply it regularly . . . especially after sweating or going in the water. And you still need to protect your eyes with sunglasses or a hat.
3. Too much food. Having fun on vacation doesn’t mean you need to gorge yourself at a restaurant for every meal. Have some healthy snacks on hand for the airport as well as the trip itself, which should make you less likely to overdo it during meals.
And if you have a kitchen at your hotel or AirBnB . . . buying food and preparing one or two meals a day will not only help you eat healthier, but will save you money too.
4. STDs. Vacation is about having fun, NOT about taking unnecessary sexual risks.
So if you’re hoping to find a stranger to grind onto, pack protection . . . always be wary of being alone with anyone you don’t know . . . and make sure that your friends know where you are at all times.
5. Chill out. It’s tempting to want to pack in a much as humanly possible when you’re visiting a different city, but make sure you have some downtime to relax too.
