Two people were injured in an accident south of Effingham yesterday. According to the Illinois State Police, a tractor-trailer driven by Michael Smith, of Kennett, Missouri, struck another rig that had stalled in the right lane of traffic, near the Edgewood exit. The driver of that rig, Margaret Lacomte, of Sealy, Texas, was taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. Smith was air-lifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital. Lacomte was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, while Smith was ticketed for violating minimum speed.
