Police in Hamden, Connecticut got a call last Friday about a “combative resident” at a senior center.
A cop named Justin Martin was talking to the staff when the guy ran away and headed upstairs. So he ran after him, and his bodycam got it on video.
He followed him into a stairwell . . . got up to the sixth floor . . . then turned down a hallway, and saw the guy running out onto a terrace.
At that point Justin went into full sprint, and got out on the terrace just in time to see the guy running for the EDGE of it.
He basically tried to dive over the railing headfirst. But Justin got there just in time, and grabbed his LEGS while he was going over. If he’d gotten there a half-second later, the guy would have died. (Here’s the video. He spots the guy at -:18.)
Apparently he tried to fight Justin off and kept kicking his legs to make him let go, but he wouldn’t. They eventually got him to a hospital for evaluation.
The Hamden Police Department posted the bodycam footage on Facebook this week, and gave Justin props for saving the guy’s life. (NBC Connecticut / Huffington Post / Facebook)
