Two Mokena men were arrested over the weekend and charged with a hate crime, battery, and three misdemeanors. According to the Charleston Police Department, Jacob Nicely and Steven Page, both 25, yelled obscenities and racial slurs at a family sitting at McHugh’s, and proceeded to batter at least two of the family members before leaving the scene. They were located by officers soon after and were taken to the Coles County jail.
