See, THIS is why you’re never too old for the buddy system on field trips.
There’s a group at Indiana University called the Caving Club, and a few weeks ago they took a, quote, “beginner’s trip” to a cave about 20 miles south of campus. A 19-year-old freshman named Lukas Cavar went on the trip.
Well . . . he got separated from the group, and they left without realizing he was still in the cave. And when he got back to the cave’s entrance, it was padlocked shut.
He couldn’t get a cell signal down there, so he spent HOURS screaming for help . . . and then he shifted into survival mode. And that was a good decision, because he was trapped in there for THREE DAYS.
He says he survived by licking water off of rocks, and he stayed sane by talking to himself and napping.
Finally his parents got worried when he never responded to their texts and they filed a missing persons report. The word got back to the Caving Club, and they went back and rescued him.
Lukas says he feels lucky to be alive . . . and his cave exploring days are done. (FOX 59 – Indianapolis)
