Vulture.com has put together a list of the 25 Greatest Disaster Movies of All Time. Here’s the Top 10:
- “Titanic”, 1997
- “The Towering Inferno”, 1974
- “The Birds”, 1963 . . . Most people don’t classify this one as a disaster flick, but Vulture insists that it is, so there you have it.
- The 1958 Titanic movie“A Night to Remember”
- “Miracle Mile”, 1988 . . . It starred Anthony Edwards and was about nuclear missiles being launched at L.A.
- “Melancholia”, 2011 . . . It starred Kirsten Dunst and was about people finding out that a small planet was on a collision course with Earth.
- “The Poseidon Adventure”, 1972
- “Contagion”, 2011
- “San Francisco”, 1936
- “Airplane!”, 1980.
“Airplane!” ranked just ahead of the 1970 movie it spoofed. “Airport” was at #11. The rest of the list includes 1974’s “Earthquake”, 1998’s “Armageddon”, and the new firefighter movie “Only the Brave”, which hits theaters this weekend.
