Earlier this month, word got out that Amazon was developing a live-action “Lord of the Rings”show with the J.R.R. Tolkien estate.
And now, the “Hollywood Reporter” says Amazon has closed a deal to do “multiple seasons” of the show. There aren’t many details yet . . . but there’s one that’s very interesting.
The show will, quote, “explore new storylines preceding ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’.” That’s the first book in the trilogy . . . so that means that their “Lord of the Rings” show might take place BEFORE “The Lord of the Rings”.
It’s unclear if this means that the show will AVOID entering the time-frame of the movies Peter Jackson made . . . and it’s also unknown how much earlier the show will be. So, it’s possible that it could also take place before “The Hobbit”.
A rep for the Tolkien estate says Amazon has “exceptional ideas to bring to the screen previously unexplored stories based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings.”
