(Tokyo) — Japanese broadcaster NHK is apologizing for issuing a false alert that said North Korea launched a missile. The incident happened days after a similar mistake caused widespread panic in Hawaii. The false message was sent in Japanese shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday and went out across the public broadcaster’s Japanese apps and website. NHK corrected the misinformation a few minutes later. NHK blamed a switching error for sending out the false report.
