Last year Congress passed the most sweeping tax reform of the federal tax code since 1986 and we’ve only just begun to see the effects of the new law.
In addition to changing the way Americans are taxed at the individual level, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) also makes some fundamental changes to the taxation of businesses and their owners.
Republicans have touted their tax reform bill as a clear win for U.S. businesses, and while that might ring true for those that will now pay a much lower corporate tax rate, the benefits for America’s small businesses are a little more complicated to decipher.
The Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a seminar to explore the important aspects of the TCJA and how it will impact small businesses and their bottom line now and in the future.
“Federal Tax Reform and the Small Business Owner” will be offered on Thursday, March 1 from 7:30 to 9:00 AM in the basement meeting room of the Charleston City Hall at 520 Jackson Avenue.
Plan now to learn how to prepare for and take advantage of these tax law changes. Find out the answers to these questions and more:
- What will be the major changes on your personal tax return?
- What is the new Qualified Business Income Deduction?
- What are some major changes for Corporate/Business tax returns?
- What kinds of tax savings can be realized with careful tax planning considerations?
- How does your type of business entity impact the amount of business income that is subject to tax?
Jeff Haywood (The CPA Superhero) will be the seminar facilitator. Jeff is a licensed Certified Public Accountant with 17 years’ experience in preparing tax returns for the public. He earned his MBA in Finance from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois and is a member of the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce.
