Snap Inc’s Stock Falls Following Rihanna Criticism
(Undated) — Snapchat is reeling from a drop in its stock after being criticized by pop star Rihanna for running an offensive ad. The ad, which was placed by a mobile-gaming company, asked users to decide whether they would rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown. Snapchat pulled the ad following backlash online and apologized saying it was a mistake. Rihanna then responded via Instagram, accusing the app of spending money on something that makes a joke of domestic violence and shames victims. Rihanna was the victim of domestic violence after Brown attacked her in 2009. Following her post, Snap Inc’s stock tumbled nearly four-percent for the day wiping almost one-billion dollars off its value. A Snap spokesperson called the ad disgusting and said it should have never appeared on the service.
