(Los Angeles, CA) — Britney Spears is being honored by the LGBTQ community. The pop music icon was presented with the Vanguard Award at last night’s 29th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, and her mere presence nearly shut down the show. Spears has been a longtime advocate for LGBTQ issues and was greeted with a standing ovation as she walked on stage to receive her award. She gave a brief speech about how society puts emphasis on what’s normal and treats things that are different as strange. She said, “To be able to express yourself as an individual through art is such a blessing.” After she left the stage though, the audience went wild and host Wanda Sykes said “Britney has broken the show.” It did, however, go on.
