The ongoing dispute over ambulance service has led to a lawsuit being filed by the City of Mattoon against Mattoon Firefighters Local 691. The suit asks for a judge to enter an order of enforcement compelling the union to abide by the arbitrator’s award. The city council voted to eliminate the fire department’s ambulance service earlier this month, however, the service remains in place as the two sides go through negotiations.
