Kardashian West Talks About Johnson Pardon
(New York City, NY) — Kim Kardashian West and Alice Johnson are giving their first interview since the celebrity helped Johnson get a presidential pardon. Johnson was given a life sentence in 1997 for a non-violent drug charge and had served over 20 years in an Alabama prison when Kardashian West heard her story. The TV star told the “Today” show that she was in talks with the White House for seven months trying to get Johnson released. She says a call to Ivanka Trump eventually led to meeting in the Oval Office last month, where Kardashian West says she pleaded with the President for clemency on behalf of Johnson. A week later, Johnson’s life sentence was commuted. Kardashian West was the one who broke the news to Johnson, and told her in a phone call, “You can go home now.”
