Tropical Storm Florence is leaving a trail of death and destruction as it pummels the Carolinas. NBC’s Craig Melvin says officials in Carteret County, North Carolina confirmed two storm-related deaths on Harkers Island this morning.

The latest deaths are in addition to the five confirmed yesterday. Those victims included a mother and her infant who were killed when a tree fell on their home in Wilmington, North Carolina. A woman in Pender County died of a heart attack because downed trees kept paramedics from reaching her. And two people died in Lenoir County, including an elderly man who was electrocuted.
