Rock Used As Doorstop For 30 Years Is $100,000 Meteorite
(Grand Rapids, MI) — A rock that’s been propping open a door at a Michigan man’s home for 30 years turns out to be a meteorite that could be worth 100-thousand dollars. That’s what he learned when he asked a geology professor at Central Michigan University to examine the 22-pound rock he’s been using for a doorstop. The man was told it was a meteorite when he bought a farm about an hour northeast of Grand Rapids in 1988. The farmer who sold him the place said the meteorite landed sometime in the 1930s. The owner, who doesn’t want his name mentioned, says the farmer told him the meteorite “made a heck of a noise when it hit.”
