The Mattoon Fire Department will begin flow-testing and painting fire hydrants this week (10/8-12). The hydrants will be flowed between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. During this time, any landscaping within three-feet of the hydrant that obstructs the view or operation will be trimmed or removed. You may notice discoloration in your water, but it is safe to drink at all times. However, if you plan on doing laundry, let the water run until it clears up.
