Taylor Swift Becomes Most Decorated Female AMA Winner
(Undated) — Taylor Swift is officially the most decorated female American Music Awards winner. The pop star picked up four awards last night – favorite pop/rock album, favorite pop/rock female artist, tour of the year and artist of the year. She also hinted that she’s already working on her next album.
Swift opened the show with her song, I Did Something Bad, from her latest Reputation album. She was also one of a few celebrities who encouraged everyone to get out and vote in the upcoming midterm elections during the show. Camila Cabello picked up the most awards of the night, including new artist of the year, favorite music video and favorite pop/rock song. Cardi B came in second with favorite rap/hip-hop artist and favorite rap/hip-hop song and favorite soul/R&B song. Carrie Underwood won favorite female country artist and Shawn Mendes landed favorite adult contemporary artist. The late rapper XXXTentacion also scored a posthumous win for favorite soul/R&B album.
The show included a tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, while Panic! at the Disco paid tribute to Queen. Mariah Carey debuted a brand new song from her upcoming album, while Jennifer Lopez debuted a track from her upcoming new movie. Ciara and Missy Elliott teamed up to perform their hit song, Level Up. Cardi B also gave the debut live performance of her hit, I Like It, alongside Bad Bunny and J Balvin. Other performers throughout the night were Khalid, Halsey and Benny Blanco, 21 Pilots, Shawn Mendes and Zedd, Carrie Underwood, and Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign. The show was hosted by actress and comedian Tracee Ellis Ross for the second year in a row. She wore an “I am a voter” t-shirt at one point and encouraged everyone to get registered.
