Illinois House OKs Licensing Professional Midwives
(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois House is okaying a measure that would license certified professional midwives. The bill would license individuals with earned professional midwife credentials who perform out-of-hospital births. Licensure would allow professional midwives to seek insurance, transfer babies to hospitals, and talk to doctors. The proposal had almost unanimous support and moves on to the Senate for consideration.
