Hi, I’m Tim. I host the night shift for 101.3 WMCI, and the Night Ride with Tim on 104.3 The Party. I’ve been keeping the music rolling all night long since 2006. People often ask me how I can stay up all night long every night? I respond by asking how they can get up at 7am every day?! The night time is the right time, as far as I’m concerned!
I’m a Coles County native, growing up in Oakland, IL. and then moving to Charleston, IL. to attend Eastern Illinois University. I sort of accidentally fell into radio while at college. I didn’t know what I was going to be pursuing as a career and I was placed in a job working at the radio/tv building as an assistant for the engineers through a work-study program. When that program ended at the end of the semester and I was walking out of the building, for what I thought was the last time, I noticed the radio staff having a meeting and, on a whim, I stopped and approached the station manager and asked if he needed any more DJs for on-air hosts. He immediately accepted and told me to come back the next day to start training. And boom, I was off to the races! I quickly fell in love with broadcasting and changed my major to broadcast communications within a week.
As a member of the EIU radio staff, I had quite an eclectic musical experience. I was the program director for the daily jazz programming. I occasionally did some nightly rock/alternative shows, blues and bluegrass, and the weekly country music show. And in fact, it was working the country show that led to my nickname. I have a tendency to turn all the lights down low in the studio when I work (you gotta have mood lighting), and one day some co-workers arrived to find me, in a darkened studio, jamming out to some country western music. So I was declared The Dark Cowboy. And I gotta say, I don’t hate the name.
My non-radio hobbies are, well, being a total nerd. Comics, sci-fi/horror movies, video games, etc. That’s where a big part of my heart lies. I attend comic-con every year, usually in costume. And I get my tickets well in advance for the first showing whenever a new Marvel/DC movie comes out.
