There’s a 33-year-old woman in Pittsburgh named Jeni Stepien, who lost her dad Michael ten years ago, when he was killed by a mugger. So when her boyfriend proposed to her recently, she didn’t know who’d walk her down the aisle.
But after her dad passed away, her family decided to donate his organs. And a guy in New Jersey named Arthur Thomas got his heart.
So while Jeni was planning the wedding, she decided to write him a letter and ask if HE’D walk her down the aisle. And a few days after she mailed it, he called her and said . . . of COURSE.
Apparently he’d written letters to their family before, and they’d talked on the phone a few times. But they’d never met until last Friday. And there’s a photo of Jeni with her hand on his chest, feeling her dad’s heart beat.
The wedding happened on Saturday, and she says it felt like her dad was there with her. And she hopes the story shows people how important organ donors are.
Meanwhile, Arthur told the local news that walking her down the aisle was the greatest honor he could imagine. (Time / CBS Pittsburgh)
