A 41-year-old transit cop named Victor Ortiz had to work an overnight shift at a metro station in Secaucus, New Jersey last Thursday, just outside New York.
He was supposed to get off at 7:00 A.M. Friday morning, but decided to work overtime. And it’s a good thing he did.
Because about 25 minutes later, he got a call about a guy who was causing problems on a train. Then the guy panicked when Victor showed up . . . said he didn’t want to go to jail . . . and jumped onto the TRACKS.
But Victor followed him and got him in handcuffs. Except then the guy saw a TRAIN coming . . . said he wanted to die . . . and laid down in FRONT of it.
So Victor tried to pull him off to the side. But the guy was pretty big, and actually started pulling VICTOR onto the tracks. And it looked like Victor might have to just leave him there.
But he decided to try one more time . . . pulled the guy’s arm as hard as he could . . . and managed to get him off the tracks just in time. There’s security footage of it, and he only had one or two seconds to spare.
