Crazy contact lenses have gotten really popular for Halloween. But if you’re planning to wear them as part of your costume, make sure you’ve seen an optometrist first.
A lot of people don’t realize, but it’s technically illegal for stores and websites to sell them to you without a prescription. Even if they’re cosmetic lenses that don’t correct your vision.
If they don’t fit right, they can scratch your eye or cause sores on your cornea. Or if they’re super-cheap, you could end up with pink eye. And in extreme cases, they can even cause BLINDNESS.
That doesn’t mean you CAN’T buy them without a prescription. Plenty of websites sell them without asking for one, but they’re technically breaking the law if they do.
The owner of a website called CandyColorLenses.com got indicted by a grand jury back in February . . . partly because they were selling counterfeit lenses from China, and partly because they weren’t asking for prescriptions.
So be safe . . . go to an eye doctor before you do anything . . . and don’t trust any website that doesn’t require a prescription before they sell them to you.
