(Essex) — A dog named Fred is warming hearts in the British countryside. The ten-year-old Labrador has adopted nine ducklings at Mountfitchet Castle in Essex. The ducklings were found without a mother, so Fred stepped up to the plate and now he roams around with nine ducklings on his back. Fred is very aware of the tiny creatures’ needs so he makes sure to take them to the castle’s moat for a dip. The castle is home to a number of rescued animals, but Fred is the “resident dog.” Fred’s owner Jeremey Goldsmith says Fred has a lovely nature and it was only natural for him to take the ducklings under his paw.
